Making a search engine
Monday, January 19th, 2025
Did you know the internet is quite... sloppy now? Originally it was made to cut
out the middleman in everything. Directly buy and sell from people, share files
around...
It has come a long way since then.
As I'm writing this, there's an AI trying to auto complete my sentences. My artwork
is being scraped by bots to be fed to LLMs. As you're reading this, 10,000 AI images
have been generated to fuel more engaged in the five big internet platforms.
There are ways to prevent ourselves from going back to the 1980s. Indieweb is pretty
cool, especially neocities. Decentralized social media is actually something with
not much computer experience can setup up. However, my problem is that they all feel
abstract from one another. I find neocities websites from social media, not from other
websites. I'm still very much dependent on big tech to find things I like.
I want to create a search engine that is remiencent of a healthy internet. I want a
search engine that has personality. A search engine that can easily find stuff I like.
A search engine that isn't run by a bajillnion dollar company, but a tens dollar guy.
RAHHHHHHHHHHH MY AMBITIION IS GETTING A HOLD OF ME NEWIEHWRBEWQRBQKRB!!!!
Yeah this project isn't going to be done in a day. Or a week. Probably not even in a month.
But I do want it to happen. I like doing stuff like this. It's fun. It's that what the old web
is supposed to be?
Hopefully I can update more on it on the future. For now, I need to focus on the website and
the mini game I'm working on.
